Blowing the head isn't either, it just has a higher chance to kill the pilot. If you're not confident enough, then don't accept the duel and show up with a full lance.Īnd finally, destroying CT has a high chance of killing the mechwarrior, but it's not an instant kill. So, in my opinion, with the warning before accepting the duel, it means that if you accept is because you're confident enough to kill the Steel Beast plus something else with just one 'Mech in your lance. It's been a few weeks since I did the mission, but I don't remember an extract zone appearing after destroying the Steel Beast's 'Mech, meaning that you haven't fulfilled all the victory conditions, so the reinforcements are not a secondary objective. But then, if you accept, that's the part of humiliating him, to destroy his 'Mech and any backup present (either exalted fans or invited friends). When it comes to the last part, if I recall correctly, when first considering to accept his "challenge of a duel" someone says something that he is not going to respect that (meaning, cheating by having some backup). I kind of enjoyed this flashpoint, Steel Beast dialogues are crazy and fun. HBS, can someone please change it so it makes sense? The mission was to kill the guy, which I did. I cannot accept completing the mission, then losing because I didn't do something that was never part of the mission. I could accept an ending where you have to survive for X rounds while the rest of your lance drops and you get murdered or held for ransom or whatever if your mech is disabled or you eject. I could accept an ending where his reinforcements want revenge so they chase you all the way to the extraction point and murder my MW if you eject. Internal consistency is vital for any universe. When you make a rule you have to follow it. It violates long established rules - your rules, not mine. This nonsensical magic mechanic where the Steel Beast is invincible as long as there are a couple of Galleons rolling around just ruined my BT morning. This mission really needs some rethinking. If you destroy the target mech you win! The target is dead! Those are the rules of the universe!!! Why do I lose? I've done dozens of Assassination missions. In my campaign if a mech gets cored the MW is dead, period. Alas, I am unable to kill his dastardly reinforcements and wind up ejecting with 3 points left on my CT internal structure. I opt to behave honorably for part 3, and I core the Steel Beast's mech. I complete part 1, then I complete part 2.
